Did you know you can easily record your iOS devices with ScreenFlow? With ScreenFlow you can record your iOS devices by simply attaching them to your computer with a USB adaptor! Set-up your projects to specifically record your iPhone or iPad screen, or just add them as additional recordings later on. And since ScreenFlow allows you to record straight from your iOS device, there is no more complicated workflows or additional Apps needed. Below we have created a quick tutorial to get you started recording you iOS device.
Things you need before we start:
- A copy of Screenflow 5 or later
- An iPhone 5, 6, 7 or later
- A Lightning to USB cable to plug your device into your computer
Step 1: Configure your recording
Connect your compatible iPhone or iPad to your computer using your Lightning to USB cable.
Step 2: Set-up your recording
Open ScreenFlow and click on the configure recording box (also accessible through the ScreenFlow helper icon in the upper right of your screen).
Step 3: Connect your iOS device
Under the New Recording tab, click the Record iOS Device checkbox and select your connected device.
Step 4: Begin recording!
Press record and ScreenFlow will begin recording for your iOS device!

Thanks for taking the time for making this tutorial, really appreciated. Currently, I’m using a desktop app call Acethinker iPhone screen recorder that mirrors my iPhone screen to the computer and use its screen recording function to make videos. It’s not that direct, but it works pretty well. Share it here as an alternative method.
I’m using ScreenFlow version 9. When I plug my iPhone into my MacBook Pro and select “record from IOS device” in ScreenFlow it records me and my sound but shows a video image of the record button, and other iPhone details. How do you get around that?
There is no getting around that, as we can only record the screen, but not the camera as a ‘web cam’. You can crop that out using the ‘Video Tab’ > Crop sliders.
Is iOS recording not available with the free trial? My permissions, iPhone, and computer are all up to data and the checkbox is greyed out. I’ve confirmed that my computer recognizes my iPhone.

All features should work in the ScreenFlow trial.
This could be an order of operations issue. Here is what I would suggest:
First ‘Unlock’ your device;
1. With ScreenFlow quit, connect the iOS device, and let the Mac do its normal barrage of questions for the device.
2. You should see a “Trust This Computer” notification. (trust it)
3. Now open ScreenFlow and see if the device is recognized.(Also test more than one “USB” port)
If that is not working, see if QuickTime recognizes the device or not.
